4/4/2024 0 Comments Garmin virb edit gauges 2018![]() ![]() I can't yet speak t battery life, but I bought the powered marine mount from Garmin to go with the Virb, so it will be powered from the boat's battery. Those won't have anything to do with recording the data on the Virb, it's just there to look at. Oh, you can also add data bars to this video page, just like you can a chart. I didn't have to download anything, it came built in to the firmware (after I upgraded to 11.00). You can even play back video from the Virb. On the plotter's Virb page you can watch the video being recorded and stop / start the recording. Oh, you need a phone or tablet to initially connect the Virb to the plotter but once it's connected, the Virb connects right back to the plotter without needing the phone. ![]() I don't recall if it was there before I connected the Virb via wifi. On my 942, there is a page on the plotter, it's under "AV, Gauges, Controls" -> "Virb" and it may only appear when you have a Virb connected, or at least once you set the Virb up initially. I can't speak for the 7610, I can check on that. I still have some work to do to get it exactly right, and yes a bit of the data I want is not there, but overall I'm quite happy with this. I then brought the video into Virb edit on my Mac, inserted the gauges, exported the video and. I watched the fake wind data i was creating ger displayed on the plotter, all for about 45 seconds. I hooked all this up in my basement, and took some video of myself spinning the propeller on the wind transducer. The Virb 360 connects via wifi to the plotter, and the plotter now is used to start and stop video. I would like to have it but can live without it, or I can find an N2K heel sensor. The GND-10 apparently does not translate heel and pitch data but the rest of it seems to be there. The 942 can now display the data from the instruments system, including wind data, compass data and so on. There is a device called a GND-10 which bridges the Nexus bus to a NMEA2000 bus. On the NMEA2000 bus is the 942 plotter, as well as a few other things. ![]() The instruments (displays) I have sit on the Nexus bus to present the data to the sailors. The Nexus server accepts data from the transducers, does some processing to make corrections and then publishes data on a Nexus Bus (which is RS485). Connected to the Nexus server is a wind transducer, a speed transducer, a magnetic compass with a heel and pitch sensor and a few other instruments. The instrument system includes a Nexus server. The Virb Ultra can do this, which is very cool, and the 360 is just that much cooler! I can now make 360 degree video with my instrument data embedded in it. ![]()
